I know that it's the best run that I've ever seen in the playoffs, and I'm glad it was by a Cal Bear.<br /><br /><object width="384" height="216" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="ESPN_VIDEO" data="http://espn.go.com/videohub/player/embed.swf" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all"><param name="movie" value="http://espn.go.com/videohub/player/embed.swf" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="wmode" value="opaque"/><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><param name="allowNetworking" value="all"/><param name="flashVars" value="id=6004808"/></object>DJ Safehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14129869832302733935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-504910075120995252.post-30371108817579924452010-08-16T22:37:00.000-07:002010-08-16T23:10:11.066-07:00Josh Ritter - The Temptation Of Adam<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kvCeCVmJAUA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kvCeCVmJAUA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">"If this was the cold war we could keep each other warm," I said<br />On the first occasion that I met Marie<br />We were crawling through the hatch that was<br />The missle silo door<br />And I don't think that she really thought that much of me<br />I never had to learn to love her<br />Like I learned to love the bomb<br />She just came along and started to ignore me<br />But as we waited for the big one<br />I started singing her my songs<br />And I think she started feeling something for me<br /><br />We passed the time with crosswords<br />That she thought to bring inside<br />"What five letters spell apacolypse?" she asked me<br />I wandered over saying WWIII<br />We smiled and we both knew that she misjudged me<br />Oh Marie it was so easy to fall in love with you<br />It felt almost like a home of sorts or something<br />And you would keep the warhead missle silo good as new<br />And I'd watch you with my thumb above the button<br /><br />Then one night you found me in my army issue cott<br />You told me of your flash of inspiration<br />You said "Fusion was the broken heart that's lonely's only thought"<br />And all night long you drove me wild with your equations<br />Oh Marie do you remember all the time we used to take<br />Making love and then ramsack the rations<br />When I think of you leaving now the avalanche cascades<br />My eyes get washed away in chain reactions<br /><br />Oh Marie if you would stay we could stick pins in the map<br />Of all the places where you thought that love would be found<br />But I would only need one pin to show where my love is at<br />In a top secret location 300 feet under the ground<br /><br />We could hold each other close<br />We'd stay up every night<br />Look up into the dark and like it's the night sky<br />Pretend this giant missle is a old oak tree instead<br />Carve our name in hearts into the warhead<br />Oh Marie something tells me things just won't<br />Work out above<br />That our love would live a half-life on the surface<br />So at night while you are sleeping<br />I hold you closer just because<br />As our time grows short I get a little nervous<br /><br />So I think about the big one<br />WWIII<br />Would we ever really care the world had ended?<br />You could hold me here forever<br />Like you're holding me tonight<br />I think about that big button and I'm tempted<br /></span><br />*********<br /><br />Is this song a big metaphor for Adam & Eve cursing mankind? It could be a hint that "Adam" is spelled with an "a" and not an "o." Is the metaphor the silo being a bedroom and that they don't have a real relationship, just sex? I'm not sure. It could be. <br /><br />At the very least on the surface this is a great song about a guy that wins over his love Marie in a silo. He wants to be with her so bad that he is tempted to bring on WWIII to be with her because he knows that their love couldn't work outside.<br /><br />Because of the great descriptions and visuals (such as carving names in a heart onto a warhead or only one pin to show where his love is at) you root for him until you realize it would take him pushing the button to a bomb to be with his love.<br /><br />This song touched me a lot more now then it did when I first listened to it because what's different is I can now imagine what crazy things I would do for the woman I love. Though I wouldn't do anything to hurt her or bring the end of the world there isn't much I wouldn't do for her. Even living in a silo wouldn't be all that bad as long as she was with me.DJ Safehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14129869832302733935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-504910075120995252.post-40641752547864265732010-04-07T21:17:00.000-07:002010-04-07T21:30:52.852-07:00What I Wouldn't Do<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.ctnmusic.com/wp-content/gallery/a_fine_frenzy/AFF_BIAB_WTwallp_3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 480px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.ctnmusic.com/wp-content/gallery/a_fine_frenzy/AFF_BIAB_WTwallp_3.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />I've loved this song for almost a year now, but I wish that I hadn't checked youtube to see if there was a video of the tonight.<br /><br />Here's a live performance of the song.<br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GtqphKBz3Ec&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GtqphKBz3Ec&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br />I'll try to be a positive guy and say the good things about this performance:<br /><br />1) The keyboard player sounded good<br />2) Allison Sudol wrote a catchy song<br />3) Allison Sudol looked cute<br /><br />after that I got nothing...<br /><br />I'll stick with the studio version. This is probably the first Natalie Imbruglia song that I don't like.<br /><br /><object id="flashObj" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,47,0" width="416" height="358"><param name="movie" value="http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9/28107384001?isVid=1&publisherID=1815805388"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><param name="flashVars" value="videoId=31649471001&playerID=28107384001&domain=embed&"><param name="base" value="http://admin.brightcove.com"><param name="seamlesstabbing" value="false"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="swLiveConnect" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9/28107384001?isVid=1&publisherID=1815805388" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" flashvars="videoId=31649471001&playerID=28107384001&domain=embed&" base="http://admin.brightcove.com" name="flashObj" seamlesstabbing="false" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" width="416" height="358"></embed></object><br /><br />Considering that I have all four of her cds and almost all of the cd-singles (for the b-sides), I can't believe that I've found a Natalie Imbruglia song that I don't like. But the bright side is that this song has brought a new video (which she looks great in as usual) and a new album is forthcoming. And with some luck I might even be able to score a promo banner for her new album.<br /><br />Here's another new song "My God." I thik that it's better than the other song, but nowhere near anything that she's put out before.<br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g7iNq68uOmU&hl=en&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g7iNq68uOmU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Her new album comes out in the UK on October 5th. Though I am not feeling "Wild About It" or "My God" I am looking forward to the 1st single "Want" which is co-written by Coldplay singer Chris Martin and produced by Brian Eno.<br /><br />"A bit annoyingly we've given her the best Coldplay song of all time," Martin said when in Australia in March. "Half of me wishes we still had it. But she sounds brilliant on it." <a href="http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25883480-5006024,00.html">(Here's the whole article.)</a><br /><br />That sounds like a song that can make up for these sorry excuses for a Natalie Imbruglia songs. I just hope that they release the album in this country so I don't have to buy an expensive import again.<br /><br />If I lived in the UK I could already pre-order it <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Come-Life-Natalie-Imbruglia/dp/B002K8P2CQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1249318252&sr=8-1">here</a>. In the past three months I've met plenty of people who I knew I wouldn't have a future with (those are easy to filter). The hard part comes when you meet someone who on paper has a lot of potential, but for some reason you're hesitant to invest the time that they deserve to get to know them and their personality. It could be that they don't live in the same city, they don't seem to get my humor, or they're a Laker fan. (j/k. I really don't hate the Lakers that much, but I do love talking mess about them.)<br /><br />But seriously... Whether that time is invested writing emails, calling, or dating... Everyone (with potential) deserves and needs time to show the beauty of their personality.<br /><br />I know that I've been hesitant to go into the getting-to-know-someone stage lately and I think that this song spoke to me and woke me up a little.<br /><br />Jenny Owen Youngs - First Person<br /><object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5610379&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5610379&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/5610379">First Person music video</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/jennyowenyoungs">Jenny Owen Youngs</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">what's the worst thing, that could happen</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">but find out that we don't quite fit</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">but on the flip side, we could be just right</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">and sure there's the chance</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">that we'll both end up broken and split</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">but that's my kind of risk</span><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">i'm not trying to make you think</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">this is some kind of great big deal</span><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">i just know exactly how you feel</span><br /><br />How can you not love that song? I still listen to her debut album "Don't Look Away" album quite a bit. I'm glad I did because I saw that she has a new album, "A Fine Mess," coming out on 5/18/09.<br /><br />Of the four songs from her upcoming album that are on itunes (and that have been performed by her character Mia on "One Tree Hill") this is the song that really stuck with me. I love the mood, meaning, and sound of the song and have been listening to it on repeat since I first heard it. I got the same feeling when I first heard her song "Only Fooling Myself." "I was just thinking about how Manhattan looks like a little piece of Lego," Voegele recalls, "but once you're inside, it's totally crazy and messy and there's a wonderful chaos going on all around the city."</span><br /><br />My interpretation of the song is it's Kate describing the excitement that you get when you want to get to know someone that you're interested in. An album recorded in a little over a day (26 hours) with Statik Selektah that is more than 95% of the rap game could accomplish if they had five years. I purchased it on the first day it was released and know that it's a piece of timeless hip hop that will still have replay value many years from now. That's what separates Sai from many of the here today gone tomorrow rappers that are out there. He doesn't just make music of today. He makes music that will outlive him.<br /><br />Here's the 1st offical single "the Rules" from the "All In A Day's Work" album.<br /><object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FfkN0sTVx8M&hl=en&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FfkN0sTVx8M&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object><br /><br />(Speaking of Saigon, here's a video that I just recently found on youtube for his mixtape classic "True Story" which was first released on his 2005 mix cd "Abandoned Nation Vol. 1") This song is a great example of why I tell people that Saigon is a more lyrical and real version of Tupac.<br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/U7B1X8ANSoc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/U7B1X8ANSoc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />Now the super group Slaughterhouse (consisting of Crooked I, Royce 5'9, Joe Budden, & Joell Ortiz) released a video to their instant classic "Move On (remix)."<br /><br />The lone west coast representer "Crooked I" bats clean up and absolutely bodies this track (starting at 6:05).<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Back in Cali n*ggas blaze and stress<br />waitin' on Detox to save the west<br />Even if that sh*t is dope<br />it ain't givin' you n*ggas hope<br />unless your signatures wrote<br />on a check from Interscope (nope)<br />Move on...</span><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YuoUr7qPfZM&hl=en&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YuoUr7qPfZM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br />This could turn out to be one of the best years for quality hip hop music in a long time with releases from Saigon (the Greatest Story Never Told), Cormega (Born & Raised), Crooked I, and Dr. Dre (Detox).<br /><br />Now if we could only get them to start playing some quality hip hop on the radio... But the more people are exposed to real lyrical rappers like these individuals they will be as disgusted as I am every time I hear Lil' Wayne, a casual rap fan, or some weak-sauce magazine like Blender (that doesn't know anything about hip hop) say Wayne's the best rapper alive.<br /><br />Just like people remember how AI crossed over Jordan, all I can remember when I compare Lil' Wayne and TI is when TI murdered him on "Swagga Like Us."DJ Safehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14129869832302733935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-504910075120995252.post-78399307732377598132009-01-24T00:53:00.001-08:002009-01-24T01:06:00.569-08:00Instrumentals for Cormega's new Mixtape? Here's some tracks that I think that Cormega would sound good over for his upcoming mixtape<br /><br />Volume 10 - Pistol Grip Pump<br />Redman - Tonight's Da Night<br />Hieroglyphics - Classic<br />Red-Foo & Dre' Kroon - Life is a Game of Chess (remix)<br />Paris - The Days of Old<br />Low Profile - Pay Ya Dues<br /><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="divplaylist" width="335" height="85"><param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=6389135-4ec"><embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=6389135-4ec" name="divplaylist" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" width="335" height="85"></embed></object><br /><br />I loaded the mp3's <a href="http://www.divshare.com/download/6389135-4ec">here</a> for download.DJ Safehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14129869832302733935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-504910075120995252.post-90821090447354713482009-01-12T21:06:00.000-08:002009-01-12T21:13:35.267-08:00The Roar Restored!!!It looks like the days of Cal basketball ranking in the bottom of the Pac-10 are no more. Cal is back to its winning ways (of a VERY long time ago) and pull off a triple overtime victory in Washington in one of the best basketball games I've ever seen. At the end of regulation and each of the overtimes Cal looked like it was dead in the water and each time came up with big plays to send it into another period and then at the end to get the victory. Put it this way, in this 55 minute game the Bears lead for a total of 27 seconds. Their only lead besides the one they took to win the game came at 1-0.<br /><br />You can watch some of the highlights here:<br /><object width="451" height="338"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2806377&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1"><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2806377&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="451" height="338"></embed></object><br /><a href="http://vimeo.com/2806377">Cal at Washington</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user663920">jamie vades</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.<br /><br />Or read about it <a href="http://www.californiagoldenblogs.com/2009/1/12/717889/holy-balls-wow">here</a>. The local news reports Cal winning and has an interview of the Stanfurd (yes, I refuse to spell their name w/ an "o") coach Jim Harbaugh who's answering when you can hear a Cal fan shout “YOU GOT SPANKED! AND WE GOT THE AXE!” (It's 0:37 into the video)<br /><object id="7783" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="448" height="394"><param value="always" name="allowscriptaccess"><param name="movie" value="http://www.nbcbayarea.com/syndication?id=34942319&path=%2Fsports%2Ffootball%2Fcollege_football"><embed src="http://www.nbcbayarea.com/syndication?id=34942319&path=%2Fsports%2Ffootball%2Fcollege_football" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" wmode="transparent" allowfullscreen="true" width="448" height="394"></embed></object><br />I know that Harbaugh wanted to hunt the fan down and beat the snot out of him, but he didn't react. As a Cal fan I love it when we lay the smack down to our arch-rivals, but find it kind of interesting that two years in a row a weak Stanfurd team has beaten the Pac-10 champion (assuming Oregon State can handle business in their Civil-War w/ Oregon). It seems like that Stanfurd team was too good a team to not have a winning record. I want them to stay as a mediocre team so they do just good enough where the coach doesn't lose his job, but not good enough to challenge us as an elite team in the Pac-10 (and country).DJ Safehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14129869832302733935noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-504910075120995252.post-38957215922566659562008-11-21T20:16:00.000-08:002008-11-21T20:31:49.658-08:00Marshawn "Beastmode" Lynch is a Baaaddd man!!! (Bad meaning good)I'm glad that a national TV audience got to see what us University of California football fans got to see before he made it to the NFL last year. That Oakland's own Marshawn Lynch is a beast with that football in his hand. He's all heart. If you look at a lot of these highlights from the monday night football game against the Browns you can see that he's never gives up on a play and it usually takes more than one person to take him down.<br /><br /><object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2281260&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2281260&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><br /><a href="http://vimeo.com/2281260">Marshawn vs Browns on MNF</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user656368">ken watanabe</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.<br /><br />Gotta love that 20+ yard dump off pass that he made everyone defender miss him before he went into the endzone.<br /><br />Oh, and on top of being a beast on the field he seems like a softy off of it. He's continuing his tradition of giving away turkeys before Thanksgiving to families in the Oakland area at his old high school.
